Errani discusses her relationship with Paolini: "It's very important to have by my side a person to whom I can say everything that comes to my mind"
At 38 years old, Sara Errani continues to perform in doubles. The Italian has won prestigious titles alongside Jasmine Paolini and Andrea Vavassori. Moreover, for the final months of her career, the former Roland-Garros singles finalist wants to dedicate herself solely to the doubles discipline.
The five-time BJK Cup winner with the Squadra Azzurra played her last singles match during the Roland-Garros qualifiers this year. In an interview, Errani discussed the end of her career as well as her relationship with her regular partners, particularly Paolini.
"It's my passion for this sport that pushes me to continue"
"I continue to play, I will certainly do doubles with Paolini and mixed doubles with Vavassori. I will no longer play singles, I have definitively given up that discipline. I have a lot of fun playing with Jas and Andrea, so I would say it's my passion for this sport that pushes me to continue.
Sometimes, I think I could also stop, but when everything is going so well, how can I? I am happy like this. I did not expect such a rich second part of my career. But I found two partners with whom I feel very comfortable, whom I trust. And the incredible results of the last two years have come, I feel grateful to tennis.
Having won the doubles and mixed doubles in Paris, having won the mixed doubles at the US Open, then in Rome, Beijing, Doha, finishing number three in doubles, it's incredible and I am very happy," assured Errani, who then discussed her relationship with Jasmine Paolini.
"We managed to find our balance in the game"
"We are the same height, but our way of playing is a bit different, even compared to my way of playing in singles. However, she has improved a lot in doubles, at the net, and we managed to find our balance in the game.
We know our roles, we are very good friends. For me, it is very important to have by my side a person to whom I can say everything that comes to my mind.
It's the same with Andrea (Vavassori), we are very good friends off the court, which allows us to feel free to ask for help even when we are playing, to vent when we need to, and to have respect for each other," assured Errani for QS Sport Magazine.
