Errani discusses her retirement: "Roland-Garros will be my last singles tournament"
Defeated by Osaka in the first round of the WTA 1000 in Rome, Errani suffered her seventh loss of the season in ten matches. During the press conference, the 38-year-old player reflected on her match against the Japanese opponent:
"It’s not easy to accept that you try to do things, but it feels like your body doesn’t respond the way you want, and the shots don’t go where you intend. But you have to accept it. I had a few chances in the second set—it’s a shame. I could have done better from the baseline since it was played on clay."
Aware that her career is nearing its end, the Italian player revealed that her last singles tournament would be at Roland-Garros, where she reached the final in 2012:
"I tried in singles, but my priority remains doubles. This is my last year in singles, and Paris will probably be my last singles tournament. I don’t know if I’ll play next year—it depends on how things go in doubles," she shared with Sky Sport.
