Eva Lys ironizes after the long interruption and her elimination in Dubai
Tuesday's programme on the Dubai courts was extremely delayed. Right from the start of the day, matches were interrupted several times due to the rain, which never really stopped threatening the smooth running of the matches.
The result was a funny scene on center court.
In the first match of the day between defending champion Jasmine Paolini and Eva Lys, the match was suspended several times due to bad weather, with one interruption lasting over four hours.
Paolini had a match point when she returned to the locker room, but was unable to play it when leading 6-2, 6-5 and 40/30 on the German's serve.
After their umpteenth warm-up, the two players returned to the court to contest... just one point.
Paolini won 6-2, 7-5 on a final forehand attack outside Lys' limits, and can still believe in her chances of making it a double in Dubai.
On Instagram after her defeat, Lys quipped when discussing her final point and posted a story with the message, "At least it wasn't a double-fault." A moment the two players won't soon forget.
