"Every time we play against each other, our level is very high," Alcaraz says about his rivalry with Sinner

In the last two Grand Slams, the final has featured the two top-ranked players in the ATP rankings, namely Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. The two members of the new generation have taken over from the Big 3 and have together won the last seven Grand Slams since the start of the 2024 season (four titles for Sinner, three for Alcaraz).
After the Spaniard's epic victory in the Roland-Garros final last month (4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6), the Italian got his revenge at Wimbledon, turning the page after missing three championship points in Paris against the same Alcaraz (4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4).
The two have already faced each other 13 times on the main tour (Alcaraz leads 8-5), but this number is expected to rise many more times in the coming months and years, especially since their last four meetings have been in the finals of the tournaments where they’ve clashed.
Now established at the top of tennis, Sinner and Alcaraz are the players to beat in major tournaments. After losing his first Grand Slam final last weekend against Sinner, the 22-year-old Spaniard reflected on his rivalry with the San Candido native.
"We are establishing our tennis and maintaining a very high level, reaching the latter stages of Grand Slams. Maybe we are changing the cycle.
I’m very happy to be in this position, to keep playing in big finals, and to do so against Jannik (Sinner). I think we are developing a very beautiful rivalry for tennis, and for me as well.
Everyone sees Jannik as the benchmark, the player to beat. And I think all players are inspired by watching him play. I hope we continue to have this rivalry in the big tournaments and that we can keep writing our story.
Every time we play against each other, our level is very high. As I’ve said many times, I think this rivalry is just beginning and will only keep improving," Alcaraz explained to the Spanish outlet Marca.
