Arthur Fils showed a completely different face this Thursday in Jeddah, dominating world No. 48 Jakub Mensik in three sets and just over an hour's play (4-2, 4-3, 4-2).
Seeded n°1 for the event, the Frenchman was on the verge of elimination after losing to Joao Fonseca yesterday. He made up for it today in what was shaping up to be the clash of the blue group.
After saving break points in the first set, Fils converted his second set point at 3-2 to take the lead.
In the tie-break of the second set, he quickly took the lead and held on to it, before closing out the third set in ruthless fashion.
This victory keeps his hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals alive. He will face American Learner Tien tomorrow.
