Fabio Fognini is one of the veterans of the ATP circuit. At 37, the whimsical Italian has no intention of stopping just yet, as evidenced by his respectable 91st world ranking.

A professional since 2004, the Transalpine has seen a whole prodigious generation pass through his hands, and can therefore testify to his achievements.

In a statement relayed by Relevo, he declares: "I've lived through an incomparable period, not only in tennis, but in all sports. Now that the new generations are arriving... I don't want to get ahead of myself, but it will be difficult for them to live through an era like mine. It was synonymous with excellence.

On the one hand, I rubbed shoulders with three historic tennis players. Three icons of the sport. Yes, Murray was the fourth, but the others were the Hail Mary. For me, what they did cannot be reproduced. I stress the good fortune of having played at the same time, but also the bad luck of having suffered them.

With them on the pitch, it was almost impossible to get a good result in a Grand Slam."

Wawrinka won as many Slams as Murray and their h2h was a fairly even 13-10 in favor of Murray, yet Stan never receives the same accolades. Stan beat Nadal in one Slam final and Djokovic for his other 2. Stan is closer to Murray than Murray is to the big 3.

Stan:
* Total titles: 15
* Slams finals: 3 won 1 lost
* 1000s: 1 won 3 lost

Murray:
* Total titles: 46
* Slams finals: 3 won 8 lost
* 1000s finals: 14 won 7 lost
* Olympic gold finals: 2 win 0 lost

Murray's achievement goes beyond all other players the last 20+ years, except for Roger's, Rafa's and Djokovic's. To me the distance between him and Stan is huge and similar to the distance between Murray and big there. Murray is actually one of the absolute brightest shining stars on the tennis heaven but he and everyone else will end up in the shadow of big there now when the history books are about to be written. But Murray was really really good.

As we move to the end of this month and also closing out the year I am wishing all of those following me a Merry Christmas and a Happy/Healthy New Year.

Let's make that wish for all 2000 plus players hoping for 5 wins each day. Hoping ŵhen we open the results page to see all green, and no red. And especially NO CANCELED matches.

From me and my rotti JAZ, I bid you all good night, and see you in...

why did tennis tonic void predictions on the match between Chwalinska and Huergo at the Quito tournament? The match was played to completion and on time. If TT feels the match is one sided, and of course it was, then don't put it up for prediction. This is getting irritating.

The finals are here, and we scramble for the best finish. I've been chasing "King" all year and I was able to shrink the spread a little. Skelp is also closing the gap.

Seasons best to all the regulars in our league.

Will you all be back in the new year.?

Steffi Graf completed a Golden Slam (not just a career Grand Slam) when she was 19. She is the only person to accomplish that, winning the four majors plus Olympic gold the same calendar year.
