Fonseca defeated by Sonego: the adventure comes to an end
Joao Fonseca had all eyes on him after his first-round victory over Andrey Rublev at the Australian Open.
The Brazilian was on a 14-match winning streak.
Unfortunately for him, he was eliminated in the second round by Lorenzo Sonego. The Italian was solid and came through in five sets, 6-7, 6-3, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
This is the first time he has reached the third round of a Grand Slam since 2023.
Sonego will face Fabien Marozsan, who beat Frances Tiafoe earlier in the day.
