Fonseca kicks off 2025 with Canberra Challenger title
João Fonseca sent a message to the competition at the Next Gen ATP Finals.
Having become the tournament's second-youngest winner just before the holidays, the 18-year-old Brazilian came to the Canberra Challenger in confident mood to kick off 2025.
João Fonseca was authoritative from start to finish in this tournament, winning the title by defeating American qualifier Ethan Quinn in the final (6-4, 6-4).
Fonseca didn't lose a single set. He had previously beaten Mackenzie McDonald, Duje Ajdukovic, Harold Mayot and Jacob Fearnley.
This is Fonseca's second Challenger title, following on from his win in Lexington last year.
Thanks to this title, João Fonseca will jump 32 places to 113th in Monday's ATP rankings. He is now dangerously close to the top 100.
