Fonseca Wins His Duel Against Herbert in a Nearly Brazilian Atmosphere

Fonseca faced Herbert in the second round of Roland-Garros on Court 14.
In an atmosphere split between French and Brazilian fans, the two players engaged in a fierce battle in the first set, which Fonseca clinched in a tie-break (7-4), despite Herbert’s strong serving performance (83% of first-serve points won in the opening set). The Brazilian, however, struggled on break points in the second set (1/9) but still managed to take it by the same scoreline (7-4 in the tie-break).
The 18-year-old rising star then dominated the third set, earning three match points at 5-4 to seal the victory (7-6, 7-6, 6-4). With this win, he claims his first victory over the French player and simultaneously reaches the third round of the Parisian Grand Slam for the first time. Notably, in his previous match, he became the youngest Brazilian to win a match at Roland-Garros since 1963.
For a spot in the round of 16, he will face the winner of the clash between Monfils and Draper, which takes place tonight on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
