For her first tournament since Wimbledon, Cornet knocked out in the first round at the WTA 125 in San Sebastian

Ranked 646th in the world, Alizé Cornet had decided to extend the fun in recent months. Although she had retired after Roland-Garros last year, the 35-year-old Frenchwoman reversed her decision in April.
However, the player from Nice had not played any tournament since Wimbledon when she arrived at the WTA 125 event in San Sebastian. Beaten by Elsa Jacquemot in the final round of qualifying in London, she hoped to get back on track on the Basque clay.
Facing Tamara Korpatsch, ranked 153rd in the world, in her opening match, Cornet fought but could not compete. The former world number 10 only held serve once, in the first game of the match.
The German, who came through qualifying, erased a break deficit in both sets (0-2 in the first set, 1-2 in the second) and ultimately won the match in two sets (6-3, 6-2 in 1 hour and 22 minutes). Korpatsch, 30, will face Mayar Sherif for a spot in the quarterfinals.
