For me, he is the dark horse of the men's tournament," Wilander's analysis of the 2025 US Open edition

Very present in the media, former champion Mats Wilander is known for sharing his opinions ahead of major tournaments, and the US Open will be no exception.
Interviewed by TNT Sports, the Swede named the player who, in his opinion, could create a surprise at Flushing Meadows.
"At the US Open, my dark horse is American Ben Shelton. This is partly due to his recent results, but above all because of his playing style. I think he is capable of beating Alcaraz and Sinner. If he serves really well, I think he will be the dark horse.
We can also add Alexander Zverev. Will he ever win a Grand Slam? It's possible. But he is always there. He very often reaches the later rounds. He doesn't really lose to lower-ranked players, and he could be in excellent serving form.
So for me, I still consider him a potential contender in a Grand Slam because he knows what he's doing. He is simply up against two great players. However, Shelton, for me, is the main dark horse of the men's tournament.
