For now, we're not as good as Sinner and Alcaraz," Medvedev admits the struggles of his generation in winning Grand Slams
Daniil Medvedev is experiencing a challenging Grand Slam season, being eliminated in the second round at the Australian Open and in the first round at Roland Garros.
In an interview with Univers Tennis, the Russian, who won the 2021 US Open, was honest about the level of his generation (including Zverev, Tsitsipas, Rublev among others) and their difficulties in winning Grand Slam tournaments:
"In our generation, I find that we have very, very strong players. For example, when I played the Next Gen Masters, if you look at the guys who were there, six of us became top 10 at some point in our careers. There was Rublev and me, Chung was unlucky with injuries, but well.
All this to say it's sport, and the reality is that Roger, Rafa, Novak, and Andy were monsters. So yes, they are from that generation you mentioned, but if you take them away, the others have won three Grand Slams. There's Marin, Stan won three.
So we have strong players, but we're not as good as them and for now, we're not as good as Sinner and Alcaraz. That's the reality. But it's okay, it's sport. But I'm fairly certain that someone else from our generation will still take, let's say, one, two, or three Grand Slams. More than that won't be easy with those others who are very strong.
