Frana, Argentine Davis Cup captain, disappointed after defeat against Germany: "It's tough to end like this after being so close"
The last quarter-final of the Davis Cup 2025 saw Germany and Argentina competing for the last ticket to the semi-finals. Despite Tomas Martin Etcheverry's success against Jan-Lennard Struff (7-6, 7-6), the South American nation was ultimately overturned.
Alexander Zverev indeed defeated Francisco Cerundolo (6-4, 7-6) while the doubles pair of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz dominated the pair Andrés Molteni/Horacio Zeballos after a suspenseful match and after saving a match point (4-6, 6-4, 7-6). The Argentine captain, Javier Frana, shared his initial impressions after the elimination.
"It's tough to end like this after being so close. However, we are very proud of ourselves, we fought until the end. Sometimes, you win, and sometimes you lose. We have nothing to regret. We gave it our all and tennis is like that. Sometimes, it just takes a few centimeters to make the difference. We accept it, even though it hurts. We are disappointed, but tomorrow will be a new day.
That's sport. Sometimes, you win a point without playing well or without making the right decision. Other times, on the other hand, you do everything correctly and lose. Paying attention to small details can help us grow. We have nothing to blame ourselves for, because when you make a decision, there is always the possibility that it is right or wrong. We have nothing to regret because we gave it our all. I am proud of the doubles players and the entire team. We are all looking in the same direction," Frana assured for Tennis World Italia.
