Fritz, Reaches Stuttgart Semifinals, Set to Re-Enter Top 5 After Tournament

Taylor Fritz has lived up to his seeding at the ATP 250 tournament in Stuttgart. The world No. 7 secured his spot in the semifinals after defeating Marton Fucsovics (6-3, 6-4). Against the Hungarian, the American was ruthless (12 aces, 22 winners, 3 breaks, and 92% of points won behind his first serve), booking his place in the final four in the German city.
After his opening win against Quentin Halys, Fritz has yet to drop a set and will now face Félix Auger-Aliassime for a spot in the final. Earlier in the day, the Canadian defeated 17-year-old Justin Engel in straight sets (7-6, 6-3). Fritz, who is aiming to reach his first final since last November’s ATP Finals, also received good news following his victory.
Indeed, this season’s Miami Masters 1000 semifinalist is now guaranteed to re-enter the ATP top 5 next Monday. He will overtake Jack Draper and Lorenzo Musetti and, at worst, be ranked No. 5 in the world next week.
He could even surpass Novak Djokovic if he clinches the title in Stuttgart this Sunday. Draper, the defending champion of this tournament, is not competing this year and will consequently lose 250 ranking points.
