Fritz unrolls against Garin to reach the third round of the Australian Open
Slowly but surely, Taylor Fritz is making quiet progress at the Australian Open. Seeded number 4 in Melbourne, the American continues his excellent end-of-season form of 2024.
After reaching the final of the last US Open and ATP Finals, the 27-year-old contributed to the United States' success at the United Cup just before the Australian Open.
After his first-round win over compatriot Jenson Brooksby (6-2, 6-0, 6-3), the Californian was even more ruthless against Cristian Garin.
In less than an hour and a half (1h22), Taylor Fritz secured his place in the next round (6-2, 6-1, 6-0), where he will meet Gaël Monfils for a place in the second week of the Australian Major.
As a reminder, the Frenchman dominated Daniel Altmaier in three sets.
A quarter-finalist in Melbourne last year, the American is hoping to repeat this performance, and perhaps go one better.
Since the start of the tournament, he has conceded just eight games to his opponents.
Fritz and Monfils have only met once before, at the Australian Open. In the second round, the American won a close match (6-3, 6-7, 7-6, 7-6).
