Tiafoe eliminated in the second round of the Australian Open by Marozsan

Frances Tiafoe has launched his year 2025. After losing in the second round in Brisbane to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, the American had made a successful start to his Australian Open career.

Faced with Arthur Rinderknech, nothing had been easy for the number 17 seed, who came through with flying colors (7-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-7, 6-3).

In the second round, Tiafoe faced Fabian Marozsan.

Difficult to play, the Hungarian, ranked 59th in the world, had also won in five sets in his first match against Thiago Seyboth Wild (6-3, 6-7, 7-5, 5-7, 7-5).

At the end of another battle that went right down to the decisive set, it was Marozsan who had the last word (6-7, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in 3h17 of play).

In this first confrontation between the two men, Tiafoe and Marozsan had numerous break points (17 for the Hungarian, 21 for the American), but it was the lower-ranked of the two who was more effective (6 breaks against 3).

Frances Tiafoe hasn't reached the second week of the Australian Open since 2019.

That year, he reached the quarter-finals, where Rafael Nadal ended his run. As for Marozsan, he continues on his way and will face the winner of the match between João Fonseca and Lorenzo Sonego.
