Former world number 1 Garbine Muguruza makes a grand return to the world of tennis, but this time behind the scenes. Alongside Feliciano Lopez, she takes the reins of the Madrid tournament with a clear ambition: to modernize and showcase the event while advocating for gender equality.

Feliciano Lopez, current director of the Madrid tournament, will now be able to count on the support of a co-director, Garbine Muguruza, former world number 1 in 2017.

Following her appointment, she reacted: "My goal, with Feliciano, will be to leverage my experience and help Madrid continue to be a reference in world tennis as a modern, fair, and ambitious tournament, fully focused on the future of this sport.
