Garcia wins against Pera and will challenge Swiatek at Indian Wells
Caroline Garcia advanced to the second round of the WTA 1000 in Indian Wells by defeating Bernarda Pera in two sets (6-3, 6-4).
Facing a player who had always beaten her in their three previous encounters, the Frenchwoman did not fall into the trap this time. Despite a low first-serve percentage (56%), she capitalized on the numerous unforced errors by the American (33 in total) to secure the win.
With this victory, her second of the season, Garcia will face world No. 2 and defending champion Iga Swiatek in the second round. The Polish player leads their head-to-head record with four wins to one.
