Gauff Advances to Second Career Quarterfinal in Cincinnati

Gauff faced Bronzetti (61st) in the round of 16 at the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati. The two players had already met on the tour earlier in 2024 at Indian Wells, where the American won in straight sets (6-2, 7-6).
As the No. 2 seed, Gauff lived up to her ranking by comfortably defeating the Italian in just over an hour of play (1 hour 19 minutes). Solid on returns and efficient on break points (4/7), the 21-year-old secured the win with a score of 6-2, 6-4.
With this result, the recent Roland-Garros finalist has reached her second quarterfinal in the tournament and earned her 35th win of the season. This qualification is an optimistic sign for her, as the last time she reached this stage in 2023, she went on to claim the title.
It’s also worth noting that Gauff has become the third player with the most WTA 1000 quarterfinal appearances before turning 22—a statistic tracked since 1990.
For a spot in the semifinals, she will face the winner of the match between Italy’s Paolini and the Czech Republic’s Krejcikova.
