In terms of scheduling, I knew it wasn’t going to work for me," Gauff explains her absence from US Open mixed doubles
The new US Open mixed doubles competition will take place on August 19 and 20, the day after the Cincinnati tournament finals.
World No. 2 Coco Gauff is among those absent from this event, which will award the winning team a million dollars. When asked in a press conference about her decision not to participate, the American cited her packed schedule:
"I know the week before the US Open is already busy for me, with sponsor-related commitments, among other things. And I’m very competitive. If I were to lose, I wouldn’t be happy. So I didn’t want to waste my mental energy on that.
There’s also the fact that this tournament (Cincinnati) ends on a Monday, and I’d potentially have to play on Tuesday. In terms of scheduling, I knew it wasn’t going to work for me. I plan my sponsor events a year in advance, sometimes even a year and a half. When all this was announced, I was already very booked and very busy.
