"Several players have asked me," Sabalenka reacts to Dimitrov's withdrawal from mixed doubles at the US Open
Injured in his right pectoral since his match against Sinner at Wimbledon, Dimitrov has already confirmed his withdrawal from the US Open. While he was set to compete in singles, the Bulgarian will also skip mixed doubles. His initial partner, Sabalenka, is now left alone.
This situation sparked media curiosity about the choice the Belarusian player would make. When questioned about it in the press zone in Cincinnati, she stated:
"Well, several players have asked me to team up with them, but no, I don’t think so. I’m a loyal person."
In the meantime, Sabalenka must defend her title in Cincinnati. Having qualified for the quarterfinals, she will need to defeat Kazakh player Rybakina, whom she already beat in Berlin last June (7-6, 3-6, 7-6).
