Gauff makes perfect start to WTA Finals against Pegula
Coco Gauff got the 2024 edition of the WTA Finals in Riyadh off to the best possible start. The American, world n°3, easily beat her compatriot Jessica Pegula, world n°6, in just over an hour (6-3, 6-2).
Solid from the baseline, Gauff was also more aggressive and enterprising than Pegula, enabling her to quickly make the difference in both sets. She was also more consistent on her serve, conceding just two breaks and breaking five times.
The American thus takes the lead of the Orange Group ahead of Iga Swiatek, who came close to defeat earlier in the day against Barbora Krejcikova (4-6, 7-5, 6-2).
