Gauff Still Wary of Swiatek: "If I Face Her in Paris, I Won’t Think About the Madrid Result"
By reaching back-to-back quarterfinals in Madrid and Rome, Coco Gauff has found her form after a challenging start to the year.
When asked about Iga Swiatek’s recent losses—one of her rivals on the tour—the world No. 3 stated that everything could change at Roland Garros, where the Pole enters as a four-time champion and defending titleholder:
"In women’s tennis, Grand Slams are best-of-three sets, so it gives players even more confidence when they face each other. But you have to respect the fact that she’s won in Paris four times.
I still believe that if someone has won a tournament that many times, no matter their current form, they can always win it again. If I face her there, I won’t take the Madrid result into account (she won their semifinal 6-1, 6-1), I won’t even think about it. I’ll step onto the court knowing she’ll play her best tennis."
