Geneva: Rinderknech qualifies for the round of 16, Cazaux defeated by Hurkacz on his return

Two French players were on the courts this Tuesday for the first round of the ATP 250 tournament in Geneva. Arthur Rinderknech, up against Miomir Kecmanovic, was hoping to win his first match on the main circuit since the Madrid Masters 1000 a month ago.
The Serbian, ranked 46th in the world, has been struggling since the start of the clay season. Aside from his first round in Munich, he hasn't won a single match on the ATP circuit on this surface in 2025, having been defeated in the first round in Monte-Carlo by Frances Tiafoe, in Madrid by Lorenzo Sonego, and in Rome by Tallon Griekspoor.
Kecmanovic's tough run on this surface continued. Rinderknech, solid, didn't concede a single break point and managed to break serve three times to pave his way to the round of 16 (6-4, 6-2), where he will face Hubert Hurkacz.
The Pole, now 31st in the ATP rankings, continued his momentum after reaching the quarterfinals in Rome. Against Arthur Cazaux, who was returning after two months out due to an elbow injury, the two-time Masters 1000 winner was composed, securing his victory (6-3, 6-4).
Invited by the organizers, the world No. 113 hadn't played any matches since the Indian Wells tournament qualifiers and primarily wanted to regain his rhythm before Roland-Garros.
