Gracheva Advances to Her First WTA 1000 Quarterfinal in Cincinnati
Varvara Gracheva continues her incredible week in Cincinnati.
After coming through qualifying and defeating Karolina Muchova in the round of 16, the French player delivered a stunning performance against Ella Seidel, also a qualifier, to secure the first WTA 1000 quarterfinal of her career.
Struggling in the first set, which she lost 6-2, Gracheva became far more aggressive in the following set. She dominated with a 6-1 scoreline as her opponent began to show signs of physical fatigue.
The final set quickly swung in favor of the Frenchwoman, who ultimately triumphed 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 in 1 hour and 55 minutes.
With six matches under her belt, Gracheva will need to recover as best she can for her quarterfinal clash against either Magda Linette or Veronika Kudermetova.
