Griekspoor after beating Gasquet: "If I can achieve some of what Richard has achieved in his career, I'll sign up right away".
Tallon Griekspoor had his work cut out on Thursday evening. Against Richard Gasquet, the Dutch player won in three thrilling sets (6-3, 3-6, 7-5).
After the match, the 46th player in the world expressed his admiration for the career of his opponent of the day, who will be retiring next spring after Roland Garros, and who thus made his last appearance at the Open Occitanie, aged 38.
"I don't know how I managed to win this match, to be honest. I think I was a bit lucky at the end.
I had quite a few second serves, but I'm happy to have been able to get the win and to have the opportunity to get back on court tomorrow (Friday).
I'd also like to congratulate Richard, he deserves all the applause in the world. He's had an incredible career, he's done a lot.
If I can achieve any of what Richard has achieved in his career, I'll sign up straight away," he said on court after the match.
