Halep receives invitation to play Australian Open qualifiers
Good news for Simona Halep. The Romanian, former world number 1 and two-time Grand Slam winner, has received a wild-card to take part in the Australian Open 2025 qualifiers.
Now 33, Halep made her return to the main circuit in Miami last March after having her doping suspension reduced to nine months by the CAS.
Simona Halep was a finalist in Melbourne in 2018, where she lost to Caroline Wozniacki.
Ranked above 800th in the world, she is hoping to enter the main draw on the Australian courts to continue her comeback operation.
"It's exciting to be back in Australia three years later. I'm grateful to the organization for this opportunity and I thank them.
I can't wait to be back in Melbourne and play in front of my Australian fans," said Halep on the tournament's official website.
