Halep withdraws for Auckland and the Australian Open
The good news finally seemed to be flowing for Simona Halep.
Invited to take part in the Auckland tournament and then the Australian Open qualifiers, the 33-year-old Romanian and former world number 1 was hoping to make a gradual comeback over the coming days.
In the end, this will not be the case. Halep announced her withdrawal from both events on her Instagram account.
"After playing in Abu Dhabi, I unfortunately felt pain in my knee and shoulder again.
After discussing with my team, we decided it was best to postpone my return to competition.
It's not what I wanted, and I'd like to thank the organizers of the Auckland and Australian Open tournaments for their invitations.
I'm sorry I won't be able to honour them this year.
I'm going to rest and I intend to take part in the Cluj tournament. I can't wait to play in front of the incredible Romanian fans", wrote the two-time Grand Slam winner.
