Stubbs advises Halep: "Be angry at the system, not at Swiatek".
Simona Halep is about to embark on her goal of climbing back up the rankings. The Romanian, now 33, is ranked above 800th in the world.
Absent from the courts for a year and a half between late 2022 and early 2024 following a suspension for doping, the former world number 1 will contest the Auckland tournament, followed by qualifying for the Australian Open in the coming days.
Halep has received invitations to both tournaments and hopes to return to her former level.
In recent weeks, the winner of Roland-Garros 2018 and Wimbledon 2019 has been in the news for her serious criticism of Iga Swiatek, who tested positive for trimetazidine.
The Pole accepted a one-month suspension at the end of the year. In her podcast, Rennae Stubbs revisits the Romanian's comments and urges her to change targets.
"I'm surprised by Simona Halep's relentlessness. She's angry, obviously, but don't be angry at Iga. Be angry at the system.
A lot of players get angry at players in situations like this, but it's not their fault. They played by the rules, or they wouldn't be playing today.
If I'd been in his situation, I probably wouldn't have let it go either. But I wouldn't blame the player.
I'd rather blame the World Anti-Doping Agency, the ITIA or whoever. But certainly not the players," she assures us.
