"He accepted the challenge, he changed his serve, his backhand," Cahill praises Sinner's mentality
In an interview with Sky Sport, Sinner’s coach, Darren Cahill, spoke about his player’s mentality. Ranked 10th in the world at just 20 years old, the Italian hasn’t rested on his laurels, showing a constant desire to improve:
"Sinner was already a great tennis player, but when we started working with him, he wanted to understand how he could become even better. Taking risks and deciding to change something in your game is an act of courage. And he did it: he accepted the challenge, he tried to change, he modified his serve, his backhand. Vagnozzi did an extraordinary job in how he trained him over the last three years.
I think what really stands out is his constant pursuit of progress, no matter his ranking. Whether he was 50th, 10th, or now world number 1, you see him on the court training with the goal of becoming a better tennis player. And that’s the thing I respect the most."
Having been part of the world number 1’s coaching staff since 2022, Cahill is expected to retire by the end of the year. The 59-year-old was a professional player in the 80s and 90s before becoming a coach for several great champions of the sport, such as Hewitt and Agassi.
