He didn't want me to come...: Coco Gauff reveals coach's words before her Wuhan triumph

Coco Gauff didn't just win a title in Wuhan: she won a personal bet. The young American star humorously recounted how she decided to challenge her coach before achieving one of the finest victories of her season.

Winning the Wuhan tournament for the first time in her career, Coco Gauff claimed the 11th title of her career and her third WTA 1000 at 21 years old. The young American beautifully concluded a successful Asian tour, having reached the semifinals in Beijing just last week.

During the trophy ceremony, the world No. 3 admitted she went against one of her coach Jean-Christophe Faurel's suggestions after the US Open:

"I'd like to thank my team. It's been an amazing Asian tour. But I'm going to call out JC. He didn't want me to come because I had a tough US Open. I had to prove him wrong. I'm a very stubborn person, so maybe he told me that so I would get good results here.

But thank you guys. We also have Gavin (McMillan, biomechanics expert) who's in South Africa right now, but he was a huge part of this whole process and this result. I know we have our ups and downs, but this moment makes it all worth it.
