"He has to watch his time," Connors analyzes Djokovic's absence in Toronto
Eliminated in the semifinals at Wimbledon, Djokovic hadn’t lost before the final since 2017. Still chasing another Grand Slam title, the Serbian knows his time is limited and every detail matters, as former champion Jimmy Connors explains.
"A tennis player like Djokovic has to watch his time and measure the effort he puts into tournaments because he’s now the oldest player on the tour. If he wants to improve his game and try to win the most important event of the latter part of the season, namely the US Open, he has to calculate all of that. It makes perfect sense—even I, after Wimbledon, also took some rest and then prepared to compete again."
For context, Jimmy Connors was among the list of older players to reach the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament (39 years old at the US Open).
