"He No Longer Needs to Hide," Sinner Pleased with Musetti's Progress
Italian tennis is shining at Roland-Garros. In the men's draw, two players will compete in the semifinals. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner will face Novak Djokovic, while Lorenzo Musetti will challenge defending champion Carlos Alcaraz for the third time this season after Monte-Carlo and Rome. The two players could meet in the final on Sunday if they advance on Friday.
During a press conference after his quarterfinal win over Alexander Bublik, the Australian Open champion was asked about his teammate, who is ranked 7th in the world and has at least reached the semifinals of every major clay-court tournament this season.
"Lorenzo (Musetti) and I support each other. We’re getting to know each other better because we play Davis Cup together. We have a great relationship off the court.
It would be amazing to face him in the final, and I think we’d both love for that to happen. But on the other hand, he has a very tough match ahead (against Alcaraz). If things go well, great—if not, too bad. There are so many big tournaments coming up.
I just wish him the best, to stay healthy. He’s an incredible player who will break into the top 5. We’re two different players. He has an incredible hand, a great slice, and he changes direction and pace with such ease.
Physically, he’s very strong and has improved his serve a lot. He no longer needs to hide. Off the court, he’s found stability and confidence… and now he brings that confidence onto the court. I’m happy for him—I see him calm, composed, and focused on his goals," he told Super Tennis.
