He sent me a message after my match," Rune reveals details about his exchanges with Agassi
Holger Rune advanced to the second round of the Cincinnati Masters 1000 yesterday by defeating Roman Safiullin (7-5, 7-6).
During an appearance on Tennis Channel, the Dane was asked about his brief collaboration with Andre Agassi. The two had been spotted together in Washington and remain in contact, as Rune explained:
"It’s still ongoing. We keep talking a bit on the phone. He sent me a message after my match, which was nice. He’s a really kind person. We also talked after Toronto about what I could improve. We’ve had a few calls about small details that can make things easier for me and help me play better. It’s always great to exchange ideas with him.
He rarely congratulates me (laughs). But the messages are nice. It’s more about the game and what he observes. I don’t think I need someone to congratulate me, and that’s what I appreciate about him—he’s really present.
He’s so passionate about tennis and all the little details. He remembers points that I remember too. But if you ask my team, I’m sure they don’t recall them. It’s exciting to share that perspective with him.
