Herbert Triumphs at Home and Claims His 6th Challenger Title

Pierre-Hugues Herbert won the Cherbourg Challenger (32nd edition) this Sunday, March 16, by defeating Dutchman Jelle Sels in two sets (6-3, 6-4). The Frenchman had not won a singles title since Quimper last year.
The Alsatian did not drop a single set in his last three matches. In the semifinals, Herbert defeated Austrian Jurij Rodionov (6-4, 6-2).
In an interview with France Bleu, the Norman reflected on this victory in front of his home crowd:
"I had never managed to get past the quarterfinals here in singles. I started off struggling, but then I managed to build momentum and win at home.
I am happy to lift the trophy in front of my wife, Nicolas Renavand, and the crowd here in Normandy. I also think of my family and my grandparents, who are 100% Norman. This fills me with pride."
His last triumph in Cherbourg dates back to 2011. Herbert had won in doubles with Nicolas Renavand, who is now his coach.
For the 8th consecutive week, a French player has won a tournament on the Challenger circuit. This 6th Challenger title allows 'P2H' to climb back to 150th in the ATP rankings.
