"He's showing an incredible level of tennis," Alcaraz discusses Cobolli, who reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon
Flavio Cobolli is having a very strong tournament at Wimbledon. The Italian, ranked 24th in the world, has defeated Beibit Zhukayev (6-3, 7-6, 6-1), Jack Pinnington Jones (6-1, 7-6, 6-2), Jakub Mensik (6-2, 6-4, 6-2), and Marin Cilic (6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 7-6) to advance to the quarterfinals in London.
A showdown against Novak Djokovic, a seven-time champion of the tournament, now awaits him for a spot in the semifinals. Ahead of this match, Carlos Alcaraz spoke about the 23-year-old's level of play and believes it will be a good test for the Serbian in this tournament.
"Djokovic and Sinner are playing very good tennis. I haven’t watched many of their matches in this tournament, but Djokovic’s first week was spectacular, which you can see in the results.
Sinner, on the other hand, is still playing incredible tennis. What happened against Grigor (Dimitrov) is obviously unfortunate, but Jannik’s level remains very high. The quarterfinals will be tough for everyone.
I know people might think it will be easier for Djokovic because he’s playing Cobolli in the quarterfinals, but I practiced with Flavio (Cobolli) earlier this week, and he’s showing an incredible level of tennis.
I think it will be a very, very interesting match to watch. Tomorrow, I have a day off, so I’ll sit on my couch and, as a big tennis fan, I’ll enjoy the match," Alcaraz told Tennis World Italia.
