Hong Kong WTA 250: Kalinskaya Retires Against Mboko, Fernandez Defeats Cirstea
The second semi-final match of the Hong Kong tournament will pit the two Canadian players in contention against each other.
Following the qualifications of Maya Joint and Cristina Bucsa, the last two quarter-finals of the Hong Kong WTA 250 tournament were on the schedule.
Anna Kalinskaya faced Victoria Mboko for the first time on the main tour. But the suspense was short-lived in this match, as the Russian, who was trailing 6-1, 3-1, threw in the towel.
Mboko thus qualifies for the semi-finals where she will face her compatriot Leylah Fernandez. The latter, who still hasn't lost a single set in this tournament, dominated Sorana Cirstea (6-4, 6-4 in 1h44).
The world number 22, who won the tournaments in Washington and Osaka this season, is still in the running to win a third trophy in 2025, but she will have to beat the winner of the summer's Montreal Masters 1000.
