Humbert impressed by Fonseca: "I’ve rarely faced a guy who played so fast"

Ugo Humbert will not advance beyond the second round of the Miami Masters 1000. The Frenchman, ranked 20th in the world, was defeated by a very strong João Fonseca, who did not concede a single break point to take down Humbert (6-4, 6-3) on a court where the majority of the crowd was rooting for the Brazilian.
Thus, Fonseca, 18, avenged his loss to his opponent from their Davis Cup match in Orléans earlier in 2025. Speaking at a press conference after his defeat, Humbert discussed Fonseca's strength, which has been impressing tennis observers for many weeks now and who has already won a title on the ATP tour.
"He played really well. I’ve rarely faced a guy who played so fast. I already play fast, but he plays even faster. I had the same feeling when I played against Alcaraz in the Davis Cup and against Sinner in Rome.
He outplayed me everywhere, he had a great match. It was a bit tough for me. I hung in there until the end, but he was stronger than me today," admitted Humbert, lucidly, after his elimination, according to comments reported by L’Équipe.
