Stats - A historic first achieved at the Sunshine Double since 1990

The Sunshine Double is historically one of the most prestigious tours on the ATP circuit. Nevertheless, Roger Federer is the last player to have achieved the feat of winning the Indian Wells and Miami tournaments in the same year, which was in 2017.
Since then, the players who have managed to win the trophy in California have all failed to confirm their success in the Florida tournament. Jack Draper has joined this list.
Freshly crowned in the American desert, the British player lost in his first match in Miami, eliminated by a very strong Jakub Mensik, who was solid in the crucial moments (7-6, 7-6).
Thus, as early as the second round, many top 15 players left the tournament prematurely. Among them were Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Holger Rune, and of course, Jack Draper.
What do these four players have in common? They were all present in the semifinals of the Indian Wells Masters 1000 in recent days and were defeated in their opening matches in Miami.
A surprising statistic, especially since the X account (formerly Twitter) Jeu, Set et Maths confirmed that since the creation of the ATP Tour in 1990, this is the first time that all Indian Wells semifinalists in a season have lost in their first match in Miami in the following tournament.
While Draper was eliminated in two sets by Mensik, the finalist in California, Holger Rune, fell into the trap set by Reilly Opelka (4-6, 6-3, 7-6). Medvedev, on the other hand, lost even more decisively against Jaume Munar (6-2, 6-3). Finally, Carlos Alcaraz suffered a second consecutive defeat, losing in three sets to the experienced David Goffin (5-7, 6-4, 6-3).
