Humbert reaches Tokyo final!
Ugo Humbert's wonderful week continues.
Taking advantage of a very favorable draw, the French No.1 held his ground on Monday, defeating the promising Tomas Machac in 3 sets (6-3, 3-6, 6-2).
Having arrived in China in a rather low state of confidence, Humbert reassured himself match after match.
Offering a highly aggressive, forward-thinking style of tennis based on a rediscovered quality of serve, the 26-year-old perfectly managed the four matches he had to play to secure his ticket to the final.
After three relatively one-sided matches (two easy wins and a Draper withdrawal in the quarters), he was challenged this time.
Opposed to a carefree and opportunistic Machac, the tricolored left-hander dominated the proceedings on the whole, but was occasionally outplayed by his spirited opponent.
Without panicking, he simply applied himself more diligently in the important moments to win.
In the final, he will face either his compatriot Arthur Fils or world number 14 Holger Rune.
