Hurkacz beats Zverev to reach the Halle final!
Hubert Hurkacz is really something on grass! After a very serious 2024 season, rarely losing to lower-ranked players, at least in the big tournaments, the Pole is hoping to take advantage of the grass-court season to set his sights even higher.
Considered by many to be the best server in the world, Hurkacz has the perfect game to shine on the surface, and that's exactly what he's showing this week. Having qualified for the Halle final without dropping a single set, his level is frightening. Although sometimes clumsy in return, his quality of serve and power of shot, particularly on the forehand, could enable him to win many a match.
Facing Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals, the player who will become world number 7 on Monday once again dominated proceedings. Buoyed by a remarkable quality of service (18 aces, 75% first serve) and his insane efficiency on important points (1 break point converted out of 1, 4 break points saved out of 4), the 27-year-old gave the French Open finalist no chance (7-6, 6-4).
In the final, he could meet the new world number 1, Jannik Sinner (unless Zhang comes and surprises his world) and there's nothing to say he couldn't be the first to topple a number 1 Sinner.
