Hurkacz withdraws from Paris Olympics, Fils seeded no. 16
Hubert Hurkacz suffered a knee injury in his second round match against Arthur Fils at Wimbledon, forcing him to withdraw from the Paris Olympics. The Pole underwent surgery on Monday, July 15, and will not recover in time to defend his chances on the French Open courts. Last week, he was still hoping to be able to take part, but he finally had to make up his mind.
Hurkacz (Wednesday, July 17): "It's every athlete's dream to represent their country at the Olympics, and I want to make sure I'm fit and ready before I make the final decision to take to the court. The aim is not just to take part, but to win a medal for my country."
Hurkacz's absence benefits Arthur Fils, ranked 20th in the world, who will be seeded n°16 on the Paris clay court. Everything seems to be smiling on the young Frenchman (20) at the moment.
