I am completely at peace with my decision": Garcia speaks out on her retirement announcement

On Friday, Caroline Garcia surprised the tennis world by announcing that she would retire in the coming months, as she will turn 32 in October.
The 2022 WTA Finals winner elaborated on this choice in comments reported by RMC Sport:
"I made the decision at the beginning of the season. When I took my break, I didn't know if I was going to come back or not. I really needed it emotionally because I felt like I hated tennis and everything around it.
After some time, I realized that I loved tennis and wanted to play one more season. Physically, things didn't go as I wanted, but I wanted to play my way, with the balance I wanted to have in my career and life.
Tennis, I love it and I always will. But then, all that you need to be competitive at a very high level: the travel, the training on the court, off the court, physical therapy, recovery... I no longer have the inner strength to do it. And so, leaving is fine by me.
Of course, there have been years that drained me physically and emotionally. And then, I have the desire to start a family, to move on, to be able to enjoy life. I am completely at peace with my decision. I was happy to share it, to be honest about it and no longer hide it.
