I am proud to have overcome depression," Kyrgios reflects on his 2019

In remarks reported by *The Guardian*, Nick Kyrgios opened up about his 2019, which, on the surface, appeared to be a good year for the Australian.
It was indeed successful in terms of sports, but Kyrgios also spoke about his mental health: "In 2019, people thought I was having an amazing year. I was in the top 20, but I was at my lowest.
When I finally opened up, people began to understand that I wasn’t always perfect, that I didn’t always do everything right, but that I was willing to talk about it.
Hundreds of thousands of kids wrote to me, and I tried to respond and help them as best as I could.
Sometimes, you have to forget what you're going through and get to work. I couldn’t just run away from it. Playing against Nadal at Wimbledon and losing in four tight sets?
I was very proud. I am proud to have overcome depression.
