I considered it the best decision for my game," explains Gauff on her coaching change before the US Open

Two days ago, Coco Gauff made the decision to make a major change in her team by replacing her coaches Matt Daly and Jean-Christophe Faurel with biomechanics expert Gavin MacMillan.
A shake-up in the staff of the world No. 3 that is explained by the issues she has encountered with her serve, with too many double faults during her matches.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the US Open, the 2022 winner justified this unexpected change:
"It was a very sudden decision. Gavin was available, so I considered it the best decision for my game right now. I let myself be guided by what I felt. Matt (Daly) is a great coach, a great person, I loved working with him.
We had a fruitful collaboration, but I want something long-term. I know Gavin has experience with this kind of problem (with the serve) in the past. I hope to draw something from his knowledge and we'll see what happens."
The American also spoke about the timing of this decision, made just before the final Grand Slam of the year:
"A tournament is a tournament. I hate losing anywhere. If it were a WTA 250, I would be just as crazy about doing it. Now, I feel like I have a good opportunity, knowing that I don't have many points to defend until the end of the season.
I hope to have everything in my favor by Monday or Tuesday when I make my debut. If not, I'll have the rest of the season to work on it.
I know I need a change, a technical change, and I don't want to waste time continuing to do something that isn't working. I'm not going to waste time playing in a way I don't want to play.
