I didn't want to waste any more time," Gauff discusses her service changes
Coco Gauff regained confidence on the courts thanks to a final in Beijing and a title in Wuhan. However, the American was coming off a major disappointment after the US Open, eliminated in the round of 16.
Moreover, a major problem had emerged: her excessively high number of double faults.
To address this, Gauff decided to make adjustments by working with Gavin MacMillan, who had previously collaborated with Aryna Sabalenka on her serve.
She explains: "I didn't want to waste any more time. I knew I had to make a decision quickly, because I knew I was going to be very busy. It was like learning a new language.
Obviously, the US Open was extremely mentally draining for me, but I'm convinced it was the right decision, even if I may not have gotten the desired result.
But in the long term, I'll be glad I made that decision at that time.
