I didn't want to waste time, Gauff reflects on her service change

World number 3 and champion at the WTA 1000 in Wuhan, Coco Gauff has recently discussed the changes made to her serve, which is the weak point in her game.

Gauff is always seeking good advice to improve. The 21-year-old player, who notably won Roland-Garros this season, is one of the most consistent players on the tour.

However, the American is aware of what still needs improvement in her game, namely her serve. In fact, the American leads the WTA tour in double faults in 2025, and she has hired Gavin MacMillan, a biomechanics expert, to change her serving mechanics. In a recent interview, she discussed the benefits of this collaboration.

"I felt that I didn't want to waste time. I knew I had to make a quick decision. As I've said before, this new way of serving is like learning a new language.

Of course, the US Open was mentally difficult for me, but I believe it was the best decision, even if I may not have achieved the desired result. But in the long term, I'll look back at that moment and tell myself that I made the right choice at that point in my career.

I made a change to my training and, knowing that everyone was watching the serving aspect of my game, I felt the pressure of suddenly having a completely new serve in four days, but I think many people expected it.

Now, I feel that my serve is better and I'm not making as many double faults as before. I think it's a positive experience, even though I felt very bad the first few times I tried this serve, but I think these kinds of things make you stronger.

In a few years, I'll still be able to remember this experience and how I managed to overcome this obstacle during the first matches," Gauff assured in recent hours for the media Punto de Break.
