"I don't know what his plans are," Hewitt doesn't understand why Tomic continues to play tennis
Former world No. 17 and Wimbledon quarterfinalist in 2011 at the age of 18, Bernard Tomic seemed to be one of the faces that would play an important role in the following years on the professional tour. Unfortunately for him, the current world No. 182 never lived up to all that potential, and eventually disappeared almost completely from tennis observers' discussions.
Still active at 33, Tomic is in the top 200 and makes do with a few appearances on the main tour. Australian Davis Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt, who has known the player well for several years now, is questioning the Tomic case.
"I don't know why he continues, but I think nobody really knows the answer. I don't know if he doesn't know what else to do or if he still feels he has things to accomplish. It's hard to say, but you have to tip your hat to him for the tournaments he's played in recent years.
Especially compared to when he was in the spotlight and playing against the biggest names. He keeps fighting. He doesn't mind playing on the secondary tour. I've spoken to him several times this week, but I don't know what his plans are," Hewitt told Tennis World USA.
