I don't sense the ambition to be Top 10 in Gaston," Ljubicic compares Boisson and Gaston
As the High Performance Director of the French Tennis Federation since 2023, Ivan Ljubicic attended a press conference at Roland-Garros at the end of the tournament.
In remarks reported by *We Love Tennis*, he discussed the cases of Loïs Boisson and Hugo Gaston, who had also made a strong run at Roland-Garros several years ago.
"It’s not simple, but I think Loïs will handle it. Being ranked 66th isn’t like when Raducanu won the Grand Slam title at the US Open. His career will change a bit, but his life won’t.
As for Hugo Gaston, he’s a very nice guy, capable of playing decent tennis, but I don’t sense the ambition to be Top 10.
He doesn’t always try to do something extra with his tennis. He depends on his opponents.
He plays drop shots, he disrupts the rhythm. You win a lot of matches like that when people don’t know you. But you can’t build a career on drop shots.
Bublik also does different things, but he didn’t reach the quarterfinals here just with drop shots. He hits well, he strikes backhands… You have to keep adding things.
