I don't think I'll sleep very well tonight," Sinner's speech after losing epic Roland-Garros final
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz delivered a match for the ages, trading blows for five and a half hours on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
Ultimately, Alcaraz had the final say in the fifth-set super tiebreak, ending Sinner's hopes for a first Roland-Garros title. The exhausted world No. 1 thanked his team and congratulated his rival during his runner-up speech:
"First, congratulations to Carlos. You played an incredible match and this battle was amazing. You and your team have done exceptional work. I'm really happy for you. You deserve this victory.
It's easier to play than to speak right now. To my team, thank you for getting me here. We gave our best today, we left everything out there. A while ago, we would have signed to be here today. It's been a great tournament, even though it's obviously tough right now.
Thank you to the ball kids, chair umpires, and line judges. It's a huge privilege for us as players to be here. I'm still satisfied with tonight's result because this is an incredible trophy. I won't sleep very well tonight, but that's okay (laughs).
Thank you to the organizers for making this event so special. And to the crowd—your support throughout these two weeks has been incredible.
